Do you remember that in the Hello June post I asked you to set aside thirty minutes each day for some "Me Time"? How did you get on? Did you do something each and every day?
Well - no - me neither. Not every day, but some days and that's a start. It's not easy to break old habits or start new regimes and sometimes we need a little help. So why not join me in July for the 30 Day Self-Care Challenge?
I'll be posting daily with suggestions for simple self-care activities you can do in half an hour or less. Hopefully a gentle reminder will help us focus on taking care of ourselves and restoring the balance in our busy lives.
One of the great things about planning (apart from making your life easier) is that you have an excuse to indulge your stationery fetish. I love stationery and I love lists.
I think that getting my life organised is going to be a fairly long-term project but that's fine, some trial and error is inevitable and it's important to set up systems that work.
There are loads of planners, lists and journals in the high-street shops and they can be bought quite cheaply. My haul cost just under £10 from B&M and The Works and the journal was £4. That's my weekly ten pound (plus a little extra) treat well spent I think!
Are you feeling the heat today? If, like me, you're almost at the point of moaning that "it's too hot", then here's a quick and cool treat for you. It's "cool" in so many ways - it's frozen, it's simple, it's cheap and it's low calorie (a zero hero if you're following the Weight Watchers programme).
You probably won't even need to go to the shops, all you need is a tub of Greek yoghurt and some fruit. I used Fage Total 0% yoghurt, some tinned apricots and some frozen cherries.
Simply puree the fruit and put at the bottom of a silicone mould then top with the yoghurt. If the yoghurt is very thick just thin it with a little water. Pop into the freezer for a couple of hours and then enjoy!
This yoghurt and fruit combo also makes great ice lollies.
And if, as in our house, you have something then the dogs have to have something too, then why not make them a treat too! Just click on the picture for the free recipe.
I am feeling a summer of sorting and simplifying coming on. The millennial adage of your brain having too many tabs open seems to resonate with me at the moment. Too many ideas are running around in my head and getting them marshalled is like trying to herd cats.
Stuff needs to be sorted - from the day to day chores like ordering groceries to the "big stuff" such as tackling that box with the vague and slightly worrying label "pensions".
I'm making a start at setting up some simple systems to help keep life under control and I've become a bit obsessed with planners. This one has really caught my eye, mainly because I love the colour palette, but also because it seems like something I would actually use. The pocket for receipts and vouchers and the clip on pencil make it extremely functional too.
I've also been quite fancying a chalk board wall but I've never had the nerve to use the paint. Imagine how many coats it would take to cover over if it doesn't look right! Well - looks like you don't have to worry - chalk board comes in a roll or a sheet that can be stuck on and peeled off. There are lots of option here, from a blank roll to pre-printed sheets.
It may be a while before I come up with perfect solutions but I think it's going to be fun trying things out. If you're looking to simplify your life too then what ever you do will be a start.
