There's a reason I've suggested the ten pound limit for your weekly treats. Do you remember getting your pocket money when you were a kid? Did you spend all week thinking about the things you could buy and then take forever to choose a selection of goodies when you got your hands on the cash. There was also the threat of not getting any pocket money if your behaviour the previous week had been less than acceptable!
I think the grumpy old owner of our corner shop must have dreaded Saturday mornings when we drove him insane with the length of time it took us to choose a selection of penny sweets (remember those?).
Having a fixed budget focused our choices - chocolate? toys? ice cream? comics? We took our time and enjoyed the process of spending our pocket money and we spent without guilt - it was our money and it was meant to be spent on treats.
We can learn a lot from children.
....and by the way you can still get Curly Wurly bars - always a great choice as they lasted ages.
